Sun exposure plays a bigger role in how a home feels than many buyers realize. The direction a home faces can affect natural light, temperature, and even energy costs, making it an important factor to consider during a showing.

Homes with morning sun typically feel bright and refreshing early in the day. East-facing living areas and bedrooms receive soft light that’s ideal for starting the morning, often keeping spaces cooler in the afternoon. This exposure is especially appealing for bedrooms and kitchens.

Homes with afternoon sun tend to receive stronger, warmer light later in the day. West-facing rooms often glow during golden hour, which many buyers find inviting. However, these spaces can also feel warmer in the evening, particularly in warmer climates, making window treatments and insulation more important.

Neither option is inherently better—it depends on lifestyle. Buyers who are home during the day may prefer morning light, while those who enjoy evenings at home may value afternoon sun. Understanding sun exposure helps buyers choose a home that feels comfortable and aligned with how they live.
